WHAT DOES VASTU SHASTRA LITERALLY TRANSLATE TO?

Vaastu’ literally means house or dwelling place of human beings and is derived from the root ‘vas’ which means to live or to reside Vaastu is a broad term that also includes the following:
Bhoomi-means the site/plot or extent of land where the building is proposed.
Prasada-includes the compound wall and buildings which are built within the Bhoomi (Site)
Yaana-means all the vehicles parked within the Bhoomi
Shayana-includes all the furniture and utensils in the building (Prasada)

Vastu is also derived from lae sanskrit word vasathi which means comfort. Comfort is achieved with the right proportion and positioning of the five niements of nature, Agni (Fire) Vaayu (Air), Vaari (Water), Prithvi (Earth) and Akash (sky) in our surroundings

The complex interplay of the above elements wing with the eight directions (E. W N, S NE. Vastu Purusha

Mayamatam the ancient Indian Book explains the legend of Vastu Purusha. Brahma the creator of the Universe once experimented creating a large cosmic man, who rapidly grew to devour everything in order to satisfy his hunger. He was raging towards the Earth. Lord Shiva and Vishnu asked Brahma to stop this creature.

Brahma with the help of Astha Dikapalakas- the gods of eight cardinal directions held it flat against the Earth while Brahma jumped on the middle. The Creature begged Brahma “You created me with this nature why am I punished” Brahma offered him a compromise and blessed him with a boon that he would be worshipped by all mortals that builds a structure on earth. He will be knows as Vastu Purusha.
